Otus is/was also made fun of for being “emotionless,” a rumor spread by other owls his age. Otus got made fun of for his simple owl cloak by the other Owls when he first received it from Asio. Otus dreamed of living in Advent one day, and fantasized that he would be loved and wanted there… Otus wishes he could thank Kernelle and Strix for sticking up for him in Advent.
When Asio is talking to Otus, Otus gets distracted by the chains on Asio’s uniform quite often. If Otus could talk, he would definitely say “Hoi” when greeting someone, just like Anne does! Otus has a little hat he likes to put on when taking care of his garden! This is only strengthened throughout the course of Owlboy. Otus is a strong flier and is best in dodging and has high endurance. His imagination takes him to wondrous places… Otus often zones out when he’s around ancient owl structures and relics. Of course, Asio hates this and usually scolds him for touching his “most prized possession.” Otus usually gets Asio’s attention by tugging on his owl cloak. Both Geddy and Alphonse think Otus is adorable, and that even though he is their courageous leader, he needs to be protected. Otus loves collecting Buccanary coins!! Geddy and Alphonse don’t stop him because his excitement for them is adorable. Otus sometimes gets distracted when flying in Strato, playing in the ponds and flying through the waterfalls for fun! Otus bathes like a little bird in a birdbath would! (Otus is the cutest video game protagonist in the world to me 🥰) (I want to illustrate that SO badly…so you know how many random ideas I get to draw for Owlboy?! Too many!) Otus definitely noticed the rising snow in Mesos, watching the snow drift from the palm his gauntlet into the sky. He probably sees in Alphonse what he desires in Asio. Otus nestles up to Alphonse a lot, and most likely sees him as a father figure due to his kind and gentle demeanor, as well as his wise words. He loves doing that for him though! Sometimes Otus even runs to Alphonse, begging him for bandages when he takes really bad blow.
OWLBOY SPECTRE CLOAK PATCH
Alphonse has to constantly patch up Otus’ scars and burns. (That or his talons are scratched up! We don’t know what Otus’ hands look like! I wonder if his gloves are apart of his body…? Does he even have hands?) Otus’ hands are extremely calloused and hardened by being knocked around in his gauntlets all the time. Otus feels guilty! He doesn’t want to hurt or upset his best friend. Twig always tries to get Otus to help him prank Geddy, but every time they try, Otus can’t help but let Geddy know of the prank before it’s pulled. (he would probably also pick at the grass too, hehe.)
When bored, Otus sometimes crouches down, wraps himself in his owl cloak and rocks around. When in high stress situations flying with the gang, Otus sometimes holds the teleporter relic in his mouth and uses his jaw to press the button whenever he needs to change friends every few seconds! (AKA: It’s super fun to quickly change between the three gunners in the game, especially once you get Twig!)
